Future Students

It’s never too late for someone to complete their college education!

More than half of the students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in University Studies are over the 18-to 24-year-old age span which is considered ‘typical’ of college students. Our adult learners join the degree program with at least 75 completed college credits and often have one or more dependents, have delayed post-secondary enrollment, have stopped out of degree programs for many reasons, attend school part-time, and/or need to be online. In short, they need a degree that accepts their accumulated credits while providing flexibility for their course of study!

The Bachelor of Science in University Studies provides that flexibility. The degree can be completed online, on campus, or with a hybrid course delivery. In addition, students who need to stop and start the degree as family, work, or financial circumstances dictate do not have to worry about their accumulated college credits expiring. Students customize their Bachelor of Science in University Studies curriculum, so they have the choice of what they want to study, where they want to study, and how they want to study.

Students who wish to pursue a career in education should be aware that a University Studies degree does not meet requirements for professional teacher licensure within the State of North Carolina. Teacher licensure can be acquired alternately, through specialized licensure only or residency licensure (formally known as lateral entry). In addition, completion of the University Studies degree will not make students eligible for specialized certifications which may be available to students who complete specific, traditional majors. Please also note that University Studies students are not eligible to pursue double majors or dual baccalaureate degrees. A student who currently holds a baccalaureate degree may not enroll in University Studies as a second baccalaureate degree program.
