Admission Process

Are you looking to start your journey in the University Studies program at East Carolina University? We can’t wait to have you join us!

For Currently Enrolled Students who want to change their major

To declare your major in University Studies, you must have a minimum of 75 completed credit hours and a GPA of a 2.0 or higher. If you do not yet meet these requirements, you will continue to work with your currently assigned advisor until you are able to declare. If you do meet these requirements and want to change your major, please set up a “Change of Major” appointment with one of our advisors by calling (252) 737-5062.

Transfer Students

Please visit ECU’s Admissions website for more information about applying to the university. We recommend that you start this process early and pay special attention to admission deadlines. To submit your application, you will need to create a Navigator account which will be your portal to access your application and view its status.

Transfer students will need to have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA for all attempted college credit to be admitted to ECU.

You may find it helpful to view ECU’s Transfer Course Equivalency Page to get an idea of how some of your credits may transfer. Please note that this is not a comprehensive list and how your courses transfer is determined by the Registrar’s Office upon your admission.

Students Who Want to Re-Enroll at ECU

Please visit ECU’s Admissions website for more information about applying to the university. We recommend that you start this process early and pay special attention to admission deadlines. To submit your application, you will need to create a Navigator account which will be your portal to access your application and view its status.

If you were enrolled at ECU in the past and did not complete your degree, you may qualify for the Part Way Home FINISH Initiative. If you have 90 or more completed credit hours, be sure to select “Yes” to that question on the application. As part of this initiative, your application fee will be waived. If you have not been enrolled at ECU in at least the last 2 consecutive terms and complete the FAFSA after being readmitted, you may also be eligible to receive money through a completion grant. For questions about the FINISH Initiative, please email FINISH@ecu.edu.

Some re-enrolling students may also want to take advantage of the Academic Forgiveness Policy. Students who have not been enrolled at ECU for the last 2 years (4 major semesters – excluding summers) may apply under the forgiveness policy. This will remove any previously earned grades of For WF from your GPA calculation (please note: these grades will still show on your transcript). Students who would like to take advantage of the Forgiveness Policy must notate this in their application.

If you have taken courses elsewhere since you were last enrolled at ECU, you must have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA for all attempted college credit to be readmitted to ECU.
