Dr. Amy Shannon

Amy Shannon was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She received her B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Central Missouri, a M.S. in Counselor Education from Emporia State University, and an EdD in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University. She started at ECU in 2000 and has worked in a variety of areas on campus. She has been the Director of the University Studies Program since 2017 and enjoys helping adult learners fulfill their goals of becoming ECU graduates. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, three children, and two dogs.

Ms. Kiya Bolds

Kiya Bolds was raised in Chicago, Illinois. She received her B.S. in Human Services with a minor in Business Administration and M.S. in Education with an emphasis in Higher Education Counseling both from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. She started ECU in 2006 and has worked in both Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Kiya has true passion for student growth, development, and social justice awareness. Outside of work, she loves spending time with her daughter. She also enjoys music, movies, and sports. Go Pirates!

Beth Simpson was born and raised in a rural town outside of Cleveland, Ohio. She came to North Carolina to complete both her B.S. in Psychology and her M.A. in College Student Development at Appalachian State University. Beth has worked within several areas at ECU since 2017. In her free time, Beth enjoys relaxing with a good book, watching college football, sitting on the front porch, and spending time with her family.

Mr. Robert Haberstroh

Robert Haberstroh was born in Birmingham, Alabama and grew up in Auburn, Alabama.  He graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with his undergraduate degree in Psychology and English.  Shortly after graduation, Robert returned to Auburn and completed his M.A. in English in 2009; he then taught Composition and Literature courses in the Alabama Community College System until he and his family moved to Greenville when his wife accepted her job with Laupus Library in 2018.  Robert enjoys reading, going to the theater, watching college football, and spending time with his family and friends.

Pamela Morris

Pamela Morris grew up in Wilmington, NC.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington with undergraduate degrees in Biology and Anthropology.  She also earned dual minors in Classical Studies and Forensic Science.  For over 15 years Pam coached Pop Warner youth cheerleading.  In her free time, Pam enjoys touring historical landmarks, spending time with family, and crafting.  She also loves her dog, Chyli Papilla (whose name is a homage to Pam’s science background).

Dr. LaWanda Simpkins

LaWanda M. Simpkins was born and raised in Greensboro, NC. Her terminal degree lies within Educational Studies with a concentration in Cultural Foundations. She also has a certificate in Women’s & Gender Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was the James Farmer Post Doctoral Fellow of Social Justice & Civil Rights at the University of Mary Washington. Simpkins holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Marketing from North Carolina A&T State University. She started at ECU in 2019 as a teaching instructor in University Studies. She truly enjoys being a part of the final academic experience of adult learners.
